A hithau’n rhychwantu pedair cenhedlaeth o deulu Collingwood, mae Archif Collingwood Prifysgol Caerdydd yn troi o amgylch W. G. Collingwood (1854-1932) a’i ddisgynyddion.
Teulu o artistiaid dylanwadol ac awduron yn ardal y Llynnoedd oedd teulu Collingwood. Ymhlith eu diddordebau roedd celf a hanes celf, ffotograffiaeth, archaeoleg, pensaernïaeth, awyrennu, astudiaethau Islandaidd, ac athroniaeth. Diolch i Grant Catalogio Cenedlaethol (yr Archifau Cenedlaethol) a’r Ymddiriedolaeth Cadwraeth Lawysgrifol Genedlaethol yr oedd yn bosib gwneud yr arddangosfa hon, sydd wedi’n galluogi i agor Archif Collingwood drwy gatalogio a chadwraeth. |

Spanning four generations, Cardiff University’s Collingwood Archive centres around W. G. Collingwood (1854-1932) and his descendants.
The Collingwoods were a family of influential artists and writers based in the Lake District. Their passions included art and art history, photography, archaeology, architecture, aviation, Icelandic studies, and philosophy. This exhibition has been made possible thanks to a National Cataloguing Grant (The National Archives) and the National Manuscript Conservation Trust, which have allowed us to open up the Collingwood Archive through cataloguing and conservation. |

Janet Gnosspelius (1926-2010)
a'r Archif Collingwood Roedd y mwyafrif o’r hyn sydd heddiw’n ffurfio Archif Collingwood gynt ym meddiant Janet Gnosspelius, wyres Gershom a merch Barbara Gnosspelius. Roedd Janet yn bensaer llwyddiannus a hanesydd lleol. Yn ei blynyddoedd diweddarach, dechreuodd gasglu gwybodaeth, ymchwil deuluol a ffynonellau a dechreuodd ysgrifennu cofiant W. G. Collingwood a'i theulu. Yn anffodus, bu farw Janet cyn y gallai gwblhau’r prosiect, ond gadawodd yr etifeddiaeth ryfeddol hon i Idealaeth Brydeinig a Chanolfan Collingwood ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Yn 2014, adneuodd Ymddiriedolwyr Cymdeithas Collingwood, elusen gofrestredig, Archif Collingwood gyda Chasgliadau ac Archifau Arbennig er mwy rhannu a chadw’r archif a sicrhau ei bod ar gael i’r cyhoedd a chynulleidfa ehangach. Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn y tro cyntaf i lawer o’r eitemau hyn gael eu harddangos yn gyhoeddus. Cyflwynir yr arddangosfa hon er cof Janet Gnosspelius (1926-2010), a theulu cyfan Collingwood. |

Janet Gnosspelius (1926-2010)
and the Collingwood Archive The majority of the Collingwood Archive was formerly in the possession of Janet Gnosspelius, Gershom’s granddaughter and Barbara Gnosspelius’s daughter. Janet was a successful architect and local historian. In her later years, Janet began compiling information, family research and sources to write a biography of W. G. Collingwood and her family. Sadly, Janet died before she could complete the project, but she left this remarkable legacy to the British Idealism and Collingwood Centre based at Cardiff University. In 2014 the Trustees of the Collingwood Society, a registered charity, deposited the Collingwood Archive with Special Collections and Archives in order to preserve and share the archive and to make it publicly available for wide audience interaction. This exhibition is the first time many of these items have been on public display. This exhibition is dedicated to Janet Gnosspelius (1926-2010), and to the entire Collingwood Family. |
